Book Club with the Young Professionals – Give First: The Power of Mentorship

Accelerate your personal and professional growth with the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals at our next book club meeting! This month, we’ll be exploring Give First: The Power of Mentorship by Brad Feld.

Feld is a longtime entrepreneur, early-stage investor, and co-founder of Techstars. In this book he distills a simple but demanding idea: put energy into people and communities without knowing exactly what you will get back, when, or from whom. Give First goes beyond “pay it forward.” It is a working philosophy for mentorship, how to show up, how to listen, how to guide without controlling, and how to set boundaries so generosity does not become burnout.

Using stories from decades in the startup world and the Techstars Mentor Manifesto as a framework, Feld shows how non-transactional mentorship creates stronger networks, better leaders, and healthier professional communities. The lessons apply whether you are looking for a mentor, becoming one, or trying to build a more generous culture on your team.

For young professionals building careers in Arlington and beyond, this is a chance to talk honestly about what good mentorship looks like and how giving first can accelerate both individual growth and the local professional community.

Join us for real discussion and exceptional networking with ambitious, like-minded professionals who are serious about growth. Come as a mentee, a mentor, or someone still figuring out which role fits. Everyone is welcome.
