Center for Public Policy and Advocacy
The Goal of the Center for Public Policy & Advocacy is to develop, implement and manage the Chamber’s public policy agenda that supports the identified priorities, projects and activities that are in alignment with the growth of our targeted industry clusters, in addition to lobbying for state and federal funds to assist in these objectives.
In so doing, the Chamber works through the Center Public Policy & Advocacy, which directs the development of the Chamber’s public policy agenda. The division consists of five standing public policy committees.
Economic Development Issues Committee
The Economic Development Issues Committee concentrates on issues including but not limited to the following: Commerce, trade and manufacturing, economic and industrial development and matters regulated by the Department of Commerce.
Education & Workforce Development Issues Committee
The Education & Workforce Development Issues Committee concentrates on issues including but not limited to the following: State & local school systems, colleges and universities, boards, tuition, loans and financing, job creation and job-training programs, employee benefits including unemployment, labor unions, safety standards and regulation, and advances in science and technology development.
Energy & Environmental Issues Committee
The Energy & Environmental Issues Committee concentrates on issues including but not limited to the following: Air, land, and water pollution, including the environmental regulation of industrial development, regulation of waste disposal, and conservation of the natural resources of Texas; energy regulation and deregulation and renewable energy.
Mobility & Transportation Issues Committee
The Mobility & Transportation Issues Committee concentrates on issues including but not limited to the following: commercial motor vehicles, both bus and truck, and their control, regulation, licensing and operation. Texas highway system, including all roads, bridges, and ferries constituting a part of the system, regulation and control of traffic on public highways of the State of Texas, railroads, street railway lines, interurban railway lines, airports, air traffic, airlines, and other organizations engaged in transportation by means of aerial flight, Metropolitan transit.
Healthcare Committee
The committee addresses healthcare issues from the perspectives of both employers and healthcare providers. This includes regulations that impose requirements on healthcare plans for employees and those that impose additional costs or additional record-keeping or management requirements on employers. The reimbursements for providers from insurers, and state and federal funding sources, will be reviewed, as well as the level of state and federal support for public healthcare systems and the interaction between the public system and the private sector.
